Privacy and AI: 8 out of 10 AI users are 'quite' or 'very concerned' about the use of their data, according to Luzia survey
The survey, elaborated by AI assistant Luzia to its users in Spain, reveals that concerns about data usage are either growing or remaining the same: only a quarter of respondents feel increasingly confident when using AI apps

78% of Spanish users are "quite" or "very" concerned about the privacy of their data, and only 3% show no concern at all. These are data from a survey by Luzia, the artificial intelligence personal assistant with more than 65 million users worldwide, to its users in Spain. Luzia has promoted this survey to find out the opinion and perception of Spaniards about privacy and security of personal data. With the results, which show the need for greater transparency and control over personal information, Luzia advocates promoting more secure and strict practices and protocols, such as end-to-end message encryption or anonymous message processing, measures already applied by some AI platforms such as Luzia.
The survey also reveals that concerns about lack of privacy are growing or persisting: a quarter of respondents say that, since using AI platforms, they are increasingly concerned about privacy, half are just as concerned, and only 25% feel increasingly secure. Respondents' main fears include the impossibility of deleting or updating their data, the use of their private information without consent, the dissemination of personal images, or the use of data for advertising purposes. In fact, four out of ten users have stopped using an application due to privacy concerns.
Pablo Delgado, spokesperson for Luzia: "The Luzia-driven survey highlights the urgent need to increase the transparency and simplicity of personal information, especially in the context of AI. Companies working with AI must build trust among users, and therefore we must prioritize clarity and honesty with our users. At Luzia, privacy is an extremely important issue and we are fully committed to ensuring that our users have control over their personal information. Our mission is to continue to democratize access to AI for anyone through a universal service that is free, inclusive, easy to use and secure."
To this end, Luzia has strict data protection measures in place. Messages that users send to the assistant are processed anonymously: end-to-end encryption is used to ensure the security and privacy of the information. Data sent to Luzia is not stored and is not shared or traded with third parties. The wizard does not use the user's information or message history to train the system.
One out of four users do not take measures to protect their privacy
The most common actions among respondents to protect data privacy are to reduce the use of social networks, delete posts and data, and change passwords regularly. However, one in four users do not take specific actions to protect their data privacy.
In this context, Luzia proposes key recommendations for users to explore the potential of AI in a conscious and responsible way, and ensure the privacy of their data. When choosing an AI tool, users should ensure that they are dealing with trusted developers, inform themselves about how their data is managed and evaluate whether sharing personal information can compromise their privacy, just as they would do with any other application or system. In this regard, it is essential to verify whether end-to-end encryption is used, whether messages are processed anonymously and whether data is shared with third parties. In addition, it is advisable to check the information provided with other sources, and to apply common sense when implementing the recommendations and advice.
Luzia's survey also reveals that more than 70% of respondents are barely aware of the European Union's AI Law, passed a year ago to regulate the ethical, safe and transparent use of AI. Nine out of ten users believe that AI should not be trained on personal data without explicit consent in the European Union.
